Hello :)

Thanks for coming to my blog page to read about me and what I am passionate about!

My name is Nancy Young and I am an 80’s baby raised in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. My childhood was typical for the 80’s in a small town: we had some parental guidance, but had the autonomy to walk home by ourselves, played more with our friends than organized activities, and learned how to explore nature and its magical world. I look back and love at how old I was running through puddles on a rainy day but I still had the glorious blessing of my youthful innocence.

After high school, I moved to Calgary to go to school and learn how to be an adult. The juxtaposition of a nature-filled small town to a big concrete jungle where people would step over displaced individuals as if they did not exist was shocking. I was young and innocent and soon realized that moving to BC to be near my newly migrated parents was a much better option for me. From there I did my second ‘growing up’, met my husband, and had children.

In all this time I always wanted to become an Interior Designer just like my mom but I didn’t have the confidence to apply to a big school. I thought that if I learned things on my own, and worked in the ‘field’ for years I could then challenge the NCIDQ.

Life had other plans for me, so like many women, I put that dream on the back burner. I worked in corporate investing and became a wife and a mom. As Rachel Hollis says ‘If you have a dream, it will always come back around again and again’ (I am paraphrasing terribly but you get the drift). I eventually I realized that drafting and design was something I wanted to pursue so I went out on a limb and did it! After my second child was born, I went to work for a local construction and design company (it also happened to be my friend ๐Ÿ™‚ ), however, life went on its side when COVID hit. I was at home with my kiddos and at 36 I decided I wanted to go back to school to be an Interior Designer. I realized a few things in that unsure time: I wanted to do what I always wanted to be & 36 is too young to spend the next 25+/- years wanting something else.

So off I went back to school where both my daughter and I learned how to write letters, learned about colours and did art lol (obviously I did more than that). I spent 2 years with my head down and basically ghosted everyone but my family. I graduated in the top 5 of my class and was ready to take on the Design world! And I did, I learned a lot from the designer I was working with but got the opportunity to take on some clients on my own, amicably parted ways, and started my own business.

In the last few years, I have done a lot of personal and professional growth and met people who truly get who I am and what I’m so passionate about. Sure going out on my own has been hard and lonely at times but I have incredible support from my husband, kids, and family. I spoke with different people in various professions to find my true calling. Now I have a clear vision of the path ahead that is unwavering, exciting, and, filled with potential.

I have truly found what I was meant to do and now I am so excited to explore and learn with all of you how it will come together. I will explain more in the next post!

If you actually made it here, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and life to read my written words. As I continue this, my writing will get better, so make sure to stick around ๐Ÿ™‚
